Bindery / Material Handler
Position Description
The person in this position under the direct supervision of the Bindery Supervisor, loads bindery pockets on a saddle stitching machine, sorts/inserts press materials for mailing/delivery, and various other duties during the finishing process of our printing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Reads work order or follows verbal instructions to ascertain materials or components.
*Responsible for laying up, feeding or piling down materials at equipment.
*Jog product off counter stacker and stack neatly on skid to assure good running in bindery or mailing department.
*Separate signatures by hand based on customer specifications. Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
*Complete skid tags to ensure accurate tracking. Install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools.
*Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
*Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together, using banding machine and clincher.
* Conducts material audits and performs visual or detailed inspections of materials as needed. Notifies Lead Person of discrepancies
* Completes appropriate paperwork.
* Maintains proper housekeeping throughout the entire shift to ensure safety
* Works responsibly and efficiently, adhering to all safety rules and policies
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Basic reading and mathematical skills
* Ability to operate simple hand tools
* Ability to lift 5 to 40 pounds on a daily basis
* Ability to operate forklift, hand pallet jack (helpful, but not necessary)
* Must be able to work in a team environment
* Must be able to communicate and carry out work direction
* Must be able to work up to 12 hour shifts, including 7:00am – 5:30pm (night shift also available)
* Position is classified as “part time” due to fluctuating work, but 30-50 hours/week on average
* Must have reliable transportation & attendance is extremely important
Education:
• High school graduate or equivalent (preferred but not required)
